A single frame always needs charge by CONTEXT to tell a story.
Context may be other pictures (adding to a sequence in time),
the oeuvre and / or personality of an artist / creator,
a contemporary or a historic context,
the title of an image,
pre-awareness and so on...
All those things are located in the past, information that unfolds just when a viewer / recipient is grasping the story told in an image.
A story always begins and ends OUTSIDE a single frame.
Most of the images that are said to tell a story just trigger a generic human emotion by common experience or expectation.
Many photographers mistake an emotion, a decisive moment, the original composition / array of an image, flawless craft or simply beauty for a story.
Whereas flawless craft or beauty captured in a photograph is simply information preventing the viewer from inner and outer resistances,
a story needs to intrigue the recipient by a sequence of information.
Are there ways to capture this sequence of information in a single image?
And can a single image portray the personality of a human being?
